The upgraded SKF Three-barrier solution consists of a new housing variant with a grease-filled cavity, a Taconite seal with flanges for water repelling during washdowns, and a sealed bearing.

A bearing protected by three barriers (labyrinth seal, housing grease and bearing seal) only needs one-tenth of the re-lubrication of an open bearing. The service interval for greasing can therefore be prolonged from once a week to every third month. The cut in greasing time and costs is usually around 90%, and without purging, you can reach up to 99.9%.
